Not for ever

I’d like to share part of a hymn I heard in a service this morning:

Not for ever by still waters
would we idly rest and stay.*

After that, as I was walking outside, an oystercatcher made a flypast right over my head, loudly shrieking. This black and white bird with its striking red beak always reminds me of the sea. It brings me a glimmer of hope that better days are coming closer.

*from the hymn: ‘Father hear the prayer we offer’
