In addition to what I wrote yesterday I can announce that we have a neighbourhood gull patrol. There’s always at least one black-headed gull – which btw doesn’t have a black head in wintertime, but only a black dot either side of its head – on the lookout scouring the water, grounds and gardens for food. Scavengers they are. So when you throw out some bread on the water, within seconds you are surrounded by a whole squadron of shrieking gulls, all trying to get the best bits. It always makes me smile.
